Next Level Player Development Camp (8/6/12 - 8/9/12)

04/17/2012, 7:00am (CDT)
By Dave Zillig

Youth Hockey Camp

OUR FOCUS
The game of hockey is getting quicker, faster, and is played in close tight areas all over the ice in a 5-10-20 ft parameter, with stretches of open ice puck movement. Our emphasis is placed on creative puck control skills in small areas with quick turns, spins, pivots, fakes, and constant inside and outside edge skating work. Our off-ice dry land training helps define creative puck control skills. We run players through skill drills and show them how to practice these skills so they can keep developing even while they are away from the ice. Our off ice also includes Baseball, Soccer, Kickball, Handball, and other eye hand and foot coordination skill games. NLPD will work on four (4) quadrants of skill based on puck skills and edgework development. Our camps are structured, educational, but most of all… FUN!

SKILL QUADRANTS
Euro-North American Puck Skills Training- puck multi-tasking, puck agility, eye hand coordination, puck footwork, space awareness, thinking ahead, and left brain / right brain concept drills- pushing through boundaries to create extreme puck confidence.
Edge Work Puck Skills- Players will constantly work the inside and outside edges of their skates while controlling the puck(s), using tight turns, spins, pivots, stutter steps, mohawks, balance and quick feet drills.
Puck Strength Skills- Are designed to help players control the puck. FOCUS- puck protection techniques, small area puck control, dribbling techniques, quick hands, puck control around the body.
Scoring / Finishing Techniques- changing the shot angle, rebound work, corner walk outs with wraps, screens, tips (general & stick placement), shooting in stride, shooting through traffic, one timers (around the net), and two foot explosion (weight transfer and hiding the release).
Control the puck… Or it will control you!

Thanks DRA!

The DYHA is the proud recipient of a DRA Grant for the purchase of coaching tools to be used at practices to help make them fun and exciting.

The following equipment has been ordered and will be made available to all coaches to be use during practices:

(6) Attack Triangles - used to simulate opposing player’s skates and sticks
(2) X-Deviators – Used to help with stick handling skills
(2) X-Passers – A fun and exciting way to teach passing accuracy
(2) Accupass Puck Returners – Helps to promote smooth passes and accuracy
