- First make your skater goes to the restroom. This is a very important step that cannot be overlooked!
- Undergarments. This would include a t-shirt or undershirt, hockey jock or athletic supporter with cup and skate socks if worn. The hockey jocks have replaced the standard athletic supporter and cup as well as the garter belt.
- Shin guards. There is a right and a left shin guard and they should be marked accordingly.
- hockey socks. Place them over the shin pads and attach the socks to the Velcro on the hockey jock or use a garter belt here.
- Breezers (pants). They can either be held up using suspenders or tightened using the waist belt.
- Skates. Tighten the laces according to your skater’s comfort level. Remember to remove the skate soakers or guards prior to sending your skater onto the ice.
- Shoulder pads are next.
- Elbow pads follow. There is a right and left elbow and they should be marked accordingly. There is also a top and a bottom. The slash guard should always be on forearm and the opening for the slash guard should be on the inside.
- Jersey
- Neck Guard. If your skater uses a neck guard, that should come next. The Velcro on the neck guard should be in the back of the neck. There is also usually a top and bottom on these and the brand name should be right-side up.
- Mouth guard.
- Helmet. Make sure it is adjusted correctly.
